Bio

He graduated from the State Institute for Cinematography and Television "Roberto Rossellini" in Rome and has been working at RAI since 1988. In 1985 he directed his first short film "The man with the flower in his mouth" based on a short story by Luigi Pirandello.

Five years later he wrote the screenplay for "Filologia", a film adaptation of a short story by Leonardo Sciascia. The famous Sicilian writer gave the young director the authorization to make the short film without asking him for the payment of royalties and undoubtedly also brought him luck, because in 1991, the short was awarded at the "Round 91" film competition in Rimini and was later broadcast by RAI 3. In October 2001 comes "Sé... " short film that was a great success and that received several awards including, in 2002, the Kodak prize and the Studio Universal award at the "Cinemae" Festival organized by the Circolo del Ministero degli Esteri (president of the jury is Oliviero Toscani and among the jurors there is the director Ferzan Ozpetek) and the award for the best short film and the best leading actor at the international festival "Amori in corto" of the cityà of Terni. In the same year the short film "Sé... " was selected at the 15th "Fipa" international festival in Biarritz, France.

In the summer of 2002 Gigliorosso made the short film "Pia", awarded at the "Corto fiction 2003" Festival in Chianciano Terme. In January 2003 he wrote and directed "Centoventimetri", a short film that received the special mention of the jury at the "Bellaria Film Festival 2004" and selected for the International Competition "Novara Cine Festival". In 2003 he directed "Ecstasy and Torment", a short film awarded at the N.I.F.F. 2004 (Net Independent Film Festival), organized by the Roman production company Caro Film and CINECITTA' DIGITAL. Also in 2004 the short film was selected at the International Festival "Panorama" in Thessaloniki (Greece). In 2005 he wrote and directed "Ciechi tutti" and the following year "Aria", the short film that earned the actor Sergio Vespertino the prize for the best interpretation at the "Bizzarro Film Festival 2006" in Alfonsine (Ravenna). Since 2003 he has been the artistic director of the National Festival "Capaci Cinema Breve", a short film festival that takes place every year in the City of Capaci.
