Bio

Francesco Merini (Bologna, 1971), film director, has a degree in art history from the University of Bologna. He has worked in the music sector, directing live performances and videos for Lucio Dalla, Vasco Rossi, Eugenio Finardi, Stefano Bollani, and for Deutsche Gramophon. He has directed numerous documentaries, including (most recently) L'''Orchestra. Claudio Abbado e i musicisti della Mozart (2014, with Helmut Failoni) distributed world-wide by the Berlin-based Euro Arts, and Palestina per principianti (2012). He directed Paglione (1999) and Cavedagne (2003, the most-shown film at the Bologna Cineteca), both considered cult films in Bolognese underground culture. His works have been broadcast on television (RAI, Sky, Rsi), distributed on DVD (Ermitage, Il Saggiatore, Eugea, Euro Arts, Cineteca di Bologna), and shown in cinemas, and have been selected for participation in dozens of National and International film festivals. He has taught at the Università del Progetto in Reggio Emilia and at the Department for Art, Music and Drama of the University of Bologna. He is currently coordinator of the Non Fiction area of Carlo Lucarelli'''s writers''' school, Bottega Finzioni. He is founding partner of Mammut Film.
