Synopsis
The Strona stream is the protagonist in a landscape that is nature, culture, economy and community. It is born in the eastern Biella area , at the foot of Mount Marca, and crosses the Camandona gorge, where it is held in an artificial reservoir. From here it forms the Valle di Mosso, or Vallestrona, the historic industrial heart of the Biella area.
Its tributaries include the Rio Poala, the Tamarone, the Tolera, the Venalba, the Merle and the Rio Campore. The purity and chemical properties of its waters have been a source of fortune for the textile sector of the valley for washing the pieces, even before being an inexhaustible source of kinetic energy.
In this role of protagonist of the complex relationship between man and the environment, the Strona reveals itself as a multifaceted organism, capable of assuming from time to time the interconnected roles of narrator and witness of memorable and exemplary facts.
The Strona is the subject to be questioned, to be listened to, to be followed in his (auto) biographical history. Only in this way the stream and its valley become the place and voice of a discourse still unheard. To say that the Strona is a subject means to affirm that this watercourse is an organism with a body, with an identity also made of belonging to a landscape-environment that he has helped to form and transform incessantly and from which he has in turn been shaped and conditioned.
