Synopsis
In a Europe in crisis, where religious differences become bloody conflicts, the ancient and deep roots of the Icelandic pagan cults can bring us to discover our common origins, with the opportunity to push them to a new, more sustainable vision of the relationship between humans and between humans and nature.
In fact , not only different religions lives together with these pagan roots, but the environment is extremely respected; for the Icelanders it’s the house of many different spiritual creatures; they decide even to stop constructions of buildings and streets in order to respect spirits and elves that lives in these rocks.
Looking at our constantly evolving society and the development of technology and genetics, seems that men wants to change the inorganic into the organic at all costs to feel it as alive. In Iceland, in search of the Hidden People, I would like to connect myself with the inorganic in an ancient and new way at the same time, looking at the rocks as an expression of our different spiritualities that can give off huge energy. Rocks are the home of our forces. I would like to show how talking about rocks like something lifeless is simplistic. Universal and natural energy brakes the claiming superiority of men on nature and on other men, and brings us to a radical metamorphosis. From this we can finally recognize a new utopia , founded on an harmonious relationship between the organic and the inorganic, the life and death.
I will travel by hitch-hiking, to explore different places in freedom and to establish new ties with whom I will meet during my trip, and I will ask them to explain me their vision and relationship with the hidden people and the way this people interact with the development of the country. My destinations are both crowded and lonely places, where I will sleep and interview my fellow travellers. The trip will be of two weeks, and I will report it with camera, polaroid 3000 and writing.
