Normandy the places of the landing: from Memory to History

The history that is taught at the high school “Fermi”, in the classes VD and VC, could be considered an introduction to historical knowledge and an approach to Past. A past that, this way, becomes more real. There is not anymore a grey confusion of names, dates, and categories, but the friendly and loved faces of one’s own dear fellows, next to important personages. The everyday fighting is shown together with he strategy of the great battles, in a very complex picture. We discovered our past thanks to historiography, researches, and the visiting of several places. Memory is remembering past experiences. Memory brings us close to the past, since telling past experiences leads to that identification that is the basis of the historical feeling. Thus the studying of history must recover past memory.
