Sandro Botticelli Painter of the Divine Comedy

The documentary recounts the 92 drawings commissioned by Lorenzo Pierfrancesco de Medici to Sandro Botticelli, as the anonymous Magliabecchiano is quoted in the mid '500 to have written: 'Botticelli painted and storyboarded a Dante on parchment for Lorenzo Piero Francesco de Medici which was marvelous'. Starting from the Inferno, passing through the Purgatory and arriving in Paradise, Botticelli illustrated the cantos of the Divine Comedy with the collaboration of the amanuensis Nicolò Mangona who inscribed on the back of the parchments the verses of the Divine Comedy's cantos. The documentary also recounts the live of Botticelli in fifteenth-century Florence, illustrating a collection of Botticelli's paintings as well as the works of other protagonists of the Florentine renaissance and other Divine Comedy codex.
