Synopsis
An earthquake is a particular and extraordinary event, out of common and daily experiences, it affects the earth, houses and men, but it also affects the human soul by erasing or modifying with evident scars its history and its sense of belonging to a place and a culture.
In addition to the evident drama of the primary needs of reconstruction, there is the intimate need for social reconstruction, for the redefinition of a space, a territory and a culture that is mutilated by the destruction of its symbols. This work mainly aims to investigate how a community can be given back a historical identity, imagining a reconstruction open to the needs of the human soul as well as its practical needs.
Imagining a reconstruction that is possible, even if daring, as a moment of reflection to define the measure of the future.
The earthquake forces those who hit it to a forced reflection, creating a moment of social and historical pause in the daily development of social life. We want to read this pause as an opportunity to rethink one's future, with a profound analysis that is not only rational but also visionary.
Our system of social life is already worn out by the forced developments of contemporary modernism, with an almost irreversible loss of collective memory: it is in this key of interpretation that the forced pause of the earthquake is understood as an opportunity, an obligatory pause on which to think well in order to set up a reconstruction, which, being obligatory, can become a symbol of a historical and social rebirth as an active connection between past and future, as a free conscious choice of the populations involved.
ANIMATION / SOUND
A video document for the soul, for inner reconstruction.
On this premise, the idea of working with animation techniques related to video and photography, allows a vision connected between reality and imagination. A proactive work that not only tells what happened but also becomes a possible vision of its possible development.
Animation, drawing, or pictorial intervention on the actual video are the tools to balance the present and the probable future, a method of fantastic investigation, creating a point of view otherwise impossible to see.
We also want to provocatively show the possibilities of human, environmental, architectural and urban intervention based on the comparison between professionals and local inhabitants by listening to their stories, anxieties, proposals and ideas, comparing them to then put them into practice by making them visible in the scrolling of the video, which does not respond to the emergency of immediate problems, but becomes a starting point for reflection and comparison between the various hypotheses of reconstruction.
Sound is entrusted with the task of keeping reality at the center, allowing the graphic imagination to freely interpret emotions, direct interviews with managers and technicians, but above all with the locals, with their dialectal differences that become a precise mapping of the territory.
The project is developed in collaboration with the record company LA TEMPESTA of Pordenone, sensitive to the drama of the earthquake due to territorial analogies of the earthquake in Friuli, to the independent record company TEMPESTA producer of the leading groups of Italian rock (the 3 cheerful dead boys, Luci della Centrale Elettrica etc....) the collaboration in addition to providing the music of Taramot, thinks of the developments as a basis for dedicated concerts on the territory of the earthquake and itinerants, with live visual reinterpretations of the production, applying a diversification of media use that will give greater visibility to the project.
As varied and different are the points of view between the territory and the people who live there, so the film is set up in a multi-authorial way, with a division into episodes divided into dedicated chapters, deliberately different from each other as different are the themes illustrated. The graphic diversification as a strong point to highlight the emotional differences of the contents passing from the information of the technicians to the impressions of ordinary people.
